Clackamas,
OR – LIFE SUPPORT has learned that our press release of June
14, 2006, denouncing the Oregon Right to Life endorsement of Ron
Saxton, a self-professed pro-abort, may need some clarification. Our
original information regarding the Saxton endorsement came from ORTL
radio interviews, and a June
10, 2006 AP story in which Tim Nashif, Oregon
Family Council Director,
said, “mainstream anti-abortion groups such as Oregon Right to Life
are comfortable backing Saxton.”
Gayle
Atteberry, ORTL Executive Director, has alerted LIFE SUPPORT that her
organization did not endorsed Ron Saxton. Since
the ORTL tendency to endorse radical, pro-abort
candidates is well documented, we
took this as welcome news, and
were initially hopeful that ORTL might finally be on the journey back to
their pro-life roots.
In
an apparent effort to further muddy the water, ORTL issued a
clarification regarding their Saxton endorsement. In a June
24, 2006 AP story, Mrs. Atteberry said that ORTL did not intend
to support Mary Starrett, the only pro-life candidate for Governor, but
might recommend to
its members that they support Saxton
because he does back some (miniscule)
restrictions on abortions.
So,
with the Atteberry clarification that the ORTL
endorsement of Saxton is only a recommendation,
it would seem the record has been set as straight as a coiled snake.
Dave
Brownlow, Executive Director of LIFE SUPPORT, said, “Oregon Right
to Fundraise has proven once again that they are nothing but a front
organization for the Republican Party. They have a long history of using
their 'endorse/recommend' mumbo-jumbo whenever they want to deceive
pro-life voters into supporting pro-abort candidates - as long as they
are Republican candidates! It would seem they are up to their old
tricks again.”
Brownlow
continued, “The pro-life charlatans over at ORTF have
turned the fight against legalized child-killing into a
highly-profitable business venture, while abandoning any pretext of
being an anti-abortion organization. It is time for pro-lifers to
get their heads out of the sand, and a) quit sending ORTF their money,
and b) treat Nashif and Atteberry as the wolves in sheep’s clothes
they have become.”
LIFE
SUPPORT recommends that ORTL include a revised dictionary in
their next voter’s guide, as the standard Webster’s version will
prove of little value in decoding their endorsements. We also recommend
that ORTL endorse
Mary Starrett, a real
pro-life governor candidate, instead of endorsing…er…recommending a counterfeit
conservative like Ron Saxton.
