“Pro-Life” Legislators Pass
“Abortion
Funding Act of 2005”

condemns Oregon’s Republican “pro-life” legislators who provided the
margin of victory to pass HB
5148 – also known as the “Abortion Funding Act of 2005.”
HB 5148 allocates
millions of taxpayer dollars to the Oregon Department of Human Services
for the specific purpose of paying for women to have their unborn children
killed. This same method of
abortion funding has paid for the death of tens of thousands of unborn
Oregonians over the last thirty years – which Life Support believes is
an unconscionable abuse of taxpayer dollars.
Life Support would
like to send a heartfelt thanks
to Representatives Brian Boquist and Kim Thatcher, who have steadfastly
refused to support any bills that provided state abortion money, and were
the only pro-life Representatives who voted against the “Abortion
Funding Act of 2005.”
To the contrary, Life
Support would also like to highlight Representatives Mac Sumner, Linda
Flores and Gene Whisnant, who had
previously signed a pledge to “oppose any bill or budget that contains
funding for induced abortions,” yet chose to sign this
abortion-funding bill anyway. Also,
disappointing, Representative Jeff Kropf signed the pledge and voted
against the budget in committee, but was absent on the day of the floor
vote.

Executive Director of Life Support, said:
“As a result of this Republican betrayal,
over 9,000 unborn Oregonians will lose their lives on the altar of
‘choice’ over the next two years.
Pro-life Oregonians should let the Republicans know that our vote
is not as secure as they have assumed.
It is time to give walking papers to those who betrayed their
pledge not to sign HB 5148,
along with House Speaker Karen Minnis, who orchestrated this moral
outrage.”
The Oregon Department
of Human Services uses Oregon taxpayer dollars to pay for nearly one out
of every three abortions that are performed in Oregon.
Life Support believes it is time to shut down this pro-abortion
state agency.
