ANNOUNCES ITS FORMATION

Clackamas, OR – In order to educate legislators, churches and private citizens on the amount of tax dollars that are being allocated to provide abortions in Oregon and to request the cessation of state money used toward abortion, a group of pro-life leaders in Oregon have formed a new pro-life group – Life Support (www.lifesupportoregon.org).

Erinn Kelley-Siel, Oregon Health and Human Services Advisor, has said that $3.22 million is projected for the 2005-2007 biennium budget. That figure equates to 9,147 abortions to be performed at the state’s expense! Life Support believes it is unconscionable to ask taxpayers to foot the bill for child-killing, either by surgical or chemical means.

Oregon ranks 49^th in the protection the unborn. Here is why:

	The Oregon Supreme Court has declared that the Oregon Constitution provides a broader right to abortion than the U.S. Constitution.
	Oregon does not provide even rudimentary protection for women considering abortions. The state does not have an informed consent law, a parental involvement law for minors seeking abortion, abortion clinic regulations, ultrasound requirements, or a prohibition on anyone other than a licensed physician performing an abortion.
	Current Oregon law does not recognize an unborn child as a potential victim of homicide or assault outside the context of abortion.
	Oregon does not require that an infant who survives an abortion be given appropriate, potentially lifesaving medical care.
	Oregon lags far behind other states in ensuring that women considering abortion receive accurate and complete information about abortion, the risks of abortion, alternatives to abortion, and the availability of public assistance to help women who want to carry their pregnancies to term.
	Oregon does not license and regulate abortion clinics, thereby failing to ensure that minimum health and safety standards are met.

The mission of Life Support is to stop public funding of abortion. Founding members include David Brownlow (former U.S. Senate candidate), Jim Leuenberger (former Judicial candidate), Suzanne Brownlow (former CWA State Director), Lon Mabon (OCA Ex. Director) and Bob Ekstrom (Chairman of the Constitution Party of Oregon).

David Brownlow, Executive Director of Life Support said, “The State of Oregon is forcing Oregonians to pay for the murder of thousands of Oregon children every year. While the abortionists are profiting, the taxpayers are left with the stain of this innocent blood on their hands. Oregon needs to defend the most vulnerable among us, and stop the flow of blood money being paid to the legalized child-killing industry.”
