LIFE SUPPORT Says

IN VITRO FERTILIZATION IS NOT PRO-LIFE

Clackamas, OR – LIFE SUPPORT reminds pro-lifers that in vitro fertilization is not pro-life.

Yesterday, a Poulso, WA woman delivered five babies who were produced by in vitro fertilization.  LIFE SUPPORT commends the woman for carrying all five conceived embryos to term and is joyful for their safe arrival.

A Coos Bay, OR woman is currently carrying twins for her friend who is also carrying twins.  The four babies were produced through in vitro fertilization.   LIFE SUPPORT commends the surrogate mother for her giving gesture.

However, since life begins at conception, LIFE SUPPORT condemns in vitro fertilization procedures because it devalues and, 80-90% of the times used, destroys life.

In vitro fertilization is a process whereby human life is generated in a laboratory environment like a glass petri dish.  Many of the embryos are placed inside the woman’s body in hopes that one embryo will successfully implant and develop.

The Jones Institute, one of the pioneers of in vitro fertilization, reports that only 10 to 20% of the human embryos produced by in vitro fertilization ever result in a normal pregnancy.

Many embryos die in the transfer process since they are fragile.
Some embryos are unwanted and eliminated because they are considered genetically inadequate.
Some embryos are stored alive in freezers.
Some embryos are simply killed as they are washed down the sink.

LIFE SUPPORT believes that human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person.

When this fundamental moral line is violated or obscured, categories of people become devalued and they become easily used for utilitarian purposes, such as cloning, eugenics and experimentation.
