Portland, OR -  On January 21, 2006, the Coalition for Abortion Revenue Elimination (CARE) participated in a dedication ceremony renaming the state’s largest abortion clinic, Lovejoy Surgicenter, as the Minnis Memorial Abortuary in honor of Republican Karen Minnis, the Speaker of the Oregon House. The ceremony was held in front of the abortuary at the corner of NW 25th and Lovejoy in Portland.

Life Support Executive Director, David Brownlow and field director, Bob Ekstrom and other C.A.R.E. representatives demonstrated outside Lovejoy Surgicenter with "Minnis Memorial Abortuary" signs.  CARE members demonstrated that abortion clinics can thank House Speaker Minnis for bringing in more money to their establishments. 

 

Many abortuary escorts actually "thanked" demonstrators for letting them know House Speaker Minnis helped pass legislation that will continue to provide money for "their clinic."

 

"We intend to continue exposing Karen Minnis's pro-life hypocrisy ever chance we get.  She's a cancer to the pro-life effort and she needs to be removed from office,"  said David Brownlow.
