CARE Marked Roe v. Wade Day by Renaming Abortuary

On January 21, 2006, the Coalition for Abortion Revenue Elimination (CARE) participated in a dedication ceremony renaming the state’s largest abortion clinic, Lovejoy Surgicenter, as the Minnis Memorial Abortuary in honor of Republican Karen Minnis, the Speaker of the Oregon House. The ceremony was held in front of the abortuary at the corner of NW 25th and Lovejoy in Portland.

“The largest share of state-funded abortions are bought at Lovejoy and, thanks to Speaker Karen Minnis’ tireless efforts to fund abortions from the state coffers – or coffins – Lovejoy does a brisk business in death,” said Paul deParrie, XD of BACK, a Coalition member. “We figured since her work so heavily funds Lovejoy, that she should be recognized for it.”

Oregon Department of Human "Services" records show that Lovejoy receives over $400,000 per year from state tax funds for the expressed purpose of exterminating Oregon children.  The average bounty paid for each dead baby is $400.

Speaker Minnis, along with a majority of the representatives in the Republican controlled House, fought hard during the 2005 Legislative Session to insure that the Oregon Health Plan was endowed with $3.2 million in blood-money to pay for an estimated 9,000 abortions over the next two years.

In addition, CARE is taking the message of the renaming of the Lovejoy abortuary to the Oregon Right to Life (who was also supportive of the state funded abortion money) event on Sunday, January 22, 2006 where they will further expose pro-life hypocrisy.

CARE chose weekend of the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade as the appropriate time to hold their dedication ceremony, and will urge pro-life activists in Oregon to begin referencing the clinic as “Minnis Memorial” in the future.
